Smart bassinets, checked: which are worth it?
Every bassinet we've checked so far landed Worth It If… — none earned a straight Worth It, and none is a safety buy. No bassinet or monitor is authorized to prevent SIDS. The real fork is simpler than the marketing: does it answer your baby, or does it wait for you? Only two respond fully on their own — the $1,995 SNOO and the $1,799 Cradlewise — and a third, the $450 Maydolly, swings at any loud noise, cry or not. Everything below is copied from each product's own published check; prices are as checked in October 2026.
| Bassinet | Price (as checked) | Responds on its own? | Use window | The one-line catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SNOO Smart Bassinet | $1,995 buy / $159/mo rent | Yes — cry-triggered rocking + sound | Birth–6 mo (~25 lb, stop at consistent rolling) | Premium features behind $19.99/mo since Jul 2024; FDA authorization is back-positioning only, not SIDS prevention |
| Cradlewise Convertible Crib | $1,799 (Amazon launch price; $1,999 ASAP direct) | Yes — bounce starts at first stir, pre-cry | 0–24 months (converts to crib) | "AI" breathing tracking has no FDA clearance; 1-year warranty on a 2-year product |
| UPPAbaby Soma | $599.99 | No — you tap the app | Birth–6 mo / 25 lb (stop at push-up) | No cry detection at all; broadest motion menu in the library (400 combinations), no subscription, no proprietary sack |
| Maydolly 506 | $449.99 (list $599.99) | Sort of — sound-activated swing at a preset speed | Bassinet to 20 lb / ~6 mo, then playpen | Can't tell a cry from a door slam; certification is brand-asserted, no independent testing found |
| HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper 3.0 | $249.99 | No — non-electronic; the swivel brings the baby to you | Birth–~4–5 mo (20 lb, stop at push-up) | Best bedside access we've measured, but a ~2° swivel tilt and a fixed 34″ base that's a trip hazard in the dark |
| GROWNSY 5-in-1 Bedside Sleeper | $199.99 launch, listings now ~$229.99 | No — manual rocking, locks flat | To 20 lb; fits adult beds 23.2–28.3″ | Ignore the marketed incline mode for sleep (AAP: flat only); young brand, thin track record |
Pick by situation
- Broken sleep is the emergency, budget isn't: SNOO — rent first ($159/mo) before buying; it's the only one whose auto-response is backed by an FDA De Novo authorization (for back-positioning, April 2023).
- You want one unit past 6 months: Cradlewise — the only smart sleeper in the library that runs 0–24 months; buy at the $1,799 order-ahead price, not the $1,999 ASAP price, and go in clear-eyed on the warranty.
- You want motion without a subscription or a 3 a.m. price tag: Soma at $599.99 — the widest parent-controlled motion menu we've checked, but you are the sensor: it never responds before you do.
- You want cry-triggered rocking without SNOO money: Maydolly 506 at $449.99 — the feature works, the "intelligence" doesn't; you're taking the maker's word on certification.
- You want the baby over your bed, no electronics or app: BassiNest 3.0 at $249.99 — the swivel and lowering wall are genuinely kind at 3 a.m. (and after a C-section), but it's a 4–5-month tool, not a long-term sleep investment.
- You want a bedside sleeper, not a robot: GROWNSY at ~$200–$230 — run it flat, locked, and strapped, and treat the incline mode as awake-time only.
