Summer Splish ’n Splash — Walmart listing photoBath & Changing · Check #123 — Batch 9
Summer Infant Splish ’n Splash 3-Stage Tub
Worth It If…$29.98 at Amazon — $24.99 at Babylist, $34.97 at Walmart; the brand’s successor tub shelves at $29.99 at Target (the ASIN is verified; Amazon refused a live price read — see Price note)
The library's cheapest credible newborn-to-toddler basin — three real stages at a third of the other tubs' prices — but the sling is the weak stage, it never folds, and 'fits a single sink' doesn't survive its 30-inch length.

one 3-stage tub from newborn to toddler — fabric sling, padded recline, roomy toddler basin — with a drain plug and parent-assist tray, that “fits in single & double sinks and adult bathtubs”
The catch
the sling is the weak stage — the listing’s top critical review is straps that never reached the clips — it never folds for storage, and “fits a single sink” doesn’t survive its own 30-inch length

What it is
A rigid one-piece plastic basin tub that holds its own water — not a bath seat, not an in-tub support — 30″ × 17″ × 7.7″, 3.61 lbs (brand spec block for model 19382A), for 0–24 months, up to 25 lbs combined. Stage 1: newborn in the included fabric sling, clipped to the tub. Stage 2: sling out, baby on the padded recline end. Stage 3: the open, roomy toddler basin. Plus a drain plug (no lifting a full tub) and a parent-assist tray moulded into the rim. Its CPSC certificate record declares ASTM F2670-22, the federal infant-bath-tub standard. The brand has since moved to Kids2 as “Summer by Ingenuity” — the near-identical Comfy Clean Deluxe tub at Target is this tub’s successor on a different model number, and its reviews are never merged into this check’s.
Claims vs. reality
- “3-stage, newborn to toddler”: the stages are real and the math is the best on the library’s tub shelf — $24.99–$34.97 against check #120’s Stokke bundle ($76–$89), check #41’s OXO ($79.99) and the $35–$45 MOBY/Frida band. But Stage 1 is the stage the file discounts: the Amazon listing’s own top critical review is a sling whose “straps did not reach all the way across to clip into place,” forcing a separate bather purchase; a hands-on reviewer found the sling tight at first; and BabyGearLab’s earlier hands-on test of this tub family marginalised the sling entirely, preferring the reclined basin without it. Stage 2 lasts a few months; Stage 3’s roomy basin is where owners actually live.
- “Fits in single & double sinks and adult bathtubs”: adult tub — yes, that’s how most owners use it. Double sink — plausible. Single sink — geometrically dubious: a rigid 30″ × 17″ tub does not lie flat in a standard 22–25″ single kitchen sink, and no hands-on source shows it doing so. And it never folds — the $50 you save over the Stokke/OXO is paid back as a permanent 30-inch object in your bathroom.
- The mold question: searched specifically — no mold pattern for this model was verified (one Walmart owner reported mold on the sling after two children while still recommending the tub; one Babylist note reports sling mildew; the detailed mold files in tub searches belong to a competitor’s sling tub and are not imported). What is verified is the mechanism: a fabric sling left damp in its seams is every sling tub’s mildew site, and the lab found grime and mould building up around the drain plug. Hang the sling dry after every bath; scrub the plug recess weekly. One more sling risk, verified: replacement slings are not reliably sold separately — a failed sling is a return, not a part order.
🛡 Safety & recalls
No CPSC recall for the Splish ’n Splash itself was found (checked Oct 22, 2026); its certificate record declares conformity with ASTM F2670-22, the federal tub standard. The Summer recalls a search surfaces are other products: ~2 million folding Deluxe Baby Bathers in 2012 (frame could disengage when carried — 5 head injuries incl. 4 skull fractures), and ~86,000 Lil’ Luxuries tubs in 2016 because the fabric sling could detach — a different model, but the same failure family as this listing’s top critical review, which is why the sling gets a pull test below. This is a basin, not a bath seat — a different standard and a different risk file. Rules: stay within arm’s reach, always — babies can drown in as little as 1 inch of water, and no tub or sling is a safety device; test the water first: 90–100 °F; use it in an empty adult tub or sink with the drain open; never lift or carry the baby in the tub; stop use if the sling’s straps no longer clip under tension. Information only, not medical advice.
Real reviews
Pools kept separate, never added. Amazon (ASIN B081R2BDJL, via the Woot mirror of the listing): 4.7/5 across 7,911 ratings. Walmart: 4.7/5 across 489 ratings / 225 reviews. Babylist: 4.8/5 across 216 (syndication flag — may overlap the brand’s file). The successor’s Target pool (4.5/5 across 61, mostly incentivised) is reported in the full check and never merged. Praise: value and longevity (the top positive review runs newborn-to-toddler with “seamless” transitions), the roomy toddler basin, the parent tray, the drain plug. Complaints, in order: (1) sling fit/QC — straps that wouldn’t reach the clips, tight first fit, one successor-file arrival missing the sling entirely; (2) the drain plug both ways — loved for existing, criticised as hard to pull with a grime-trapping recess; (3) storage bulk — rigid and 30 inches long; (4) the short middle stage and a low toddler fill line. No repeating breakage or injury pattern for this model surfaced.
Price & FSA/HSA
$29.98 at Amazon (queue/Woot record), $24.99 at Babylist, $34.97 at Walmart, and the successor shelves at $29.99 at Target — a flat shelf with no real discounting; $24.99–$29.99 is the fair band, and above ~$35 you are closing on the MOBY/Frida band that buys better sling engineering. Against the library: roughly a third of the price of check #120’s Stokke bundle and check #41’s OXO, giving up fold-flat storage and premium materials. Price-line note: the Amazon link carries ASIN B081R2BDJL, pinned from the approved queue plus the Woot mirror of that listing; Amazon refused a live read, so no live buy-box price or seller is asserted. FSA/HSA: not eligible — a baby tub is a general bathing item (checks #41/#51/#72/#120).
Worth It If… you want the cheapest credible newborn-to-toddler basin — three real stages at a third of the library’s other tub prices — you test the sling’s clips before the baby arrives, hang the sling dry after every bath, and have room for a rigid 30-inch tub that never folds.
