Fisher-Price 4-in-1 Sling ’N Seat Tub

Worth It If…
$34.49–$37.99 at Amazon

$34.49–$37.99 — Amazon from $34.49; Target’s White listing is $37.99 in stock — never pay above ~$38 for this basin

Wirecutter's favourite basin and a 4.8-across-10,353 Amazon pool, with four real stages to a hard 25 lb ceiling — but it won't fit a standard single sink, its sling and labels grow mold despite hanging, and Stage 2 carries recurring toe-rubbing reports.

The pitch

four stages grow newborn to toddler in one tub, with a mesh sling, Sit-Me-Up seat, drain plug and hang hook

The catch

every stage caps at 25 lb, “fits most sinks” fails a standard single sink, mold grows on the sling and under labels despite hanging, and Stage 2 carries recurring owner reports of pinky toes rubbed raw

FSA/HSA

Not eligible — a baby bathtub is a general bathing item, not a medical expense (see Price & FSA/HSA)

What it is

A rigid one-piece plastic basin tub that holds its own water (Mattel GPW85; Amazon ASIN B00JBYNKWG), 30.5 × 17.75 × 8.66 in, ~2.3 lb, max 25 lb. Four stages on one basin: Stage 1 mesh sling (0–3 months, to 15 lb), Stage 2 infant insert (3–6 months, to 20 lb), Stage 3 Sit-Me-Up seat (6–9 months, to 25 lb), Stage 4 open toddler tub (9 months+, to the same 25 lb) — limits from Mattel’s same-design records; GPW85’s own record prints only “Birth and up.” Includes drain plug, hang hook, squeeze rinse bottle and whale scoop.

Claims vs. reality

  • “Grows newborn to toddler”: four real configurations — Wirecutter calls it its favourite basin bath, the roomiest and most versatile tested — but the whole product caps at 25 lb, so “toddler” means early toddler, and the sling’s printed 0–3-month / 15 lb window exits in weeks for a big newborn (owners ran it 4–5 months on average babies). BabyGearLab ranks it #5, Comfort 5/10, and notes the sitting support is hard to remove.
  • “Fits most sinks”: contradicted by the testers who praise it — Wirecutter: its large size means it probably won’t fit in the sink. Plan on the adult tub, a wide double sink after a secure-fit test, or the floor.
  • Drain & hang vs. mold: plug and hook verify and help — and the plug is the fiddliest part (reports of leaks and a plug that won’t stay closed; it hides under the Stage 2 seat at drain time), while mold grows where hanging doesn’t reach: on the sling within a month (2021) and under the warning label / stickers despite draining, cleaning and hanging every time (2019 and 2024 reports). Machine-wash the sling, hang parts separately, inspect under the label.

🛡 Safety & recalls

No CPSC recall for this tub was found Oct 23, 2026 (Fisher-Price’s recalled sleepers and gliders are different products). The governing warning is drowning: babies can drown in as little as 1 inch of water — always within arm’s reach, never unattended, never lift the tub with the baby in it; the sling and seat are bathing aids, not safety devices. Separately, the owner file carries a recurring Stage 2 toe pattern across 2018–2023 — pinky toes rubbed raw, bleeding or cut on the insert’s texture and rough lip holes (owner reports; no regulator action found). Run a fingertip over Stage 2’s surfaces before the first use and stop that stage at the first toe redness. Information only, not medical advice.

Real reviews

Pools kept separate: Amazon via Ubuy’s mirror — 4.8/5 across 10,353 ratings (the independent count the curation lacked); Mattel-shop file — 4.1/5 across 121 reviews, 85% recommend; Target’s current White listing — 4.8/5 across 105, heavily promotion-collected, flagged as such. Praise: roominess, the Sit-Me-Up seat as the category’s standout stage, a machine-washable sling, and multi-child durability. Complaints, in order: (1) mold on the sling / under labels; (2) the Stage 2 toe pattern; (3) the plug; (4) sheer size — bulky to store and heavy to hang.

Price & FSA/HSA

$34.49–$37.99 is the honest band (Amazon from the queue’s $34.49; Target White $37.99 in stock) — no tracked average is claimed; no pricehistory.app record for this tub exists. The library ladder: #123 Splish ’n Splash $24.99–$29.99 (budget, three stages), this tub’s four stages and top editorial pick in the middle, #51 MOBY $39.99 and #72 Frida 4-in-1 $39.49 a few dollars up with their own sling files, and #41 OXO $63.99 at double for fold-flat storage. FSA/HSA: not eligible — general bathing item (checks #51 / #72 / #123 precedent).

Worth It If… you have adult-tub or double-sink room for a roomy 30.5-inch basin and you’ll do three first-week inspections — sink fit, a fingertip check of the Stage 2 surfaces, and a mold check under the label — because Wirecutter’s favourite basin carries a specific critical file under its warm ratings.
