The Carrier 2 — the update: one-touch buckles, attached XL fanny pack, and a 35 lb ceiling on a 1.5 lb frame
Travel & On the Go · Check #232
The Baby Carrier 2 (Colugo)
The original Colugo formula with a better map — $69.00 for a 1.5 lb, 7–35 lb carrier with published 12 lb / 6-month gates for facing-out and back carry, one-touch buckles and 30-day returns — bought on a spec sheet, because Carrier 2 has no owner record yet.
See current price ↗The pitch
hands-free parenting, upgraded — a 1.5 lb roll-up carrier for 7–35 lb with one-touch magnetic buckles, an attached XL fanny pack, a phone-size front pocket and a UPF 50 sunshade included
The catch
there is no owner record for this model yet, the hip-healthy claim is unverifiable on IHDI’s current list, the Carrier 2 page states no JPMA/ASTM line, and 35 lb is a tested ceiling, not an all-day comfort promise
FSA/HSA
not eligible — a baby carrier is general parenting gear, not a medical expense
What it is
Colugo’s update of its original soft-structured carrier: a 1.5 lb polyester carrier (shell and mesh 100% polyester; strap padding polyurethane foam; waist-belt foam EVA) rated newborn–35 lb with a 7 lb minimum and no infant insert, with an adjustable panel (13.2″ high without the hood, seat width 8.7–15.0″), a waist strap fitting 28.3–52.8″, padded shoulder straps, air-mesh backing, structured head support, a hidden pocket for diapers, wipes or a onesie, and an included UPF 50 sunshade. In the box: the carrier, the sunshade and an attached XL fanny pack, plus a front zipper pocket. Positions are listed as four: front facing-in from 7 lb, and front facing-in, front facing-out and back carry from 12 lb+. Machine washable cold on gentle, air dry. The page states 30-day returns and a 2-year limited warranty on carriers.
Claims vs. reality
“Hip-healthy” is NOT VERIFIED on IHDI’s current list. The Carrier 2 FAQ just says yes, with a pun, and never names the International Hip Dysplasia Institute; the original’s page names IHDI outright. IHDI’s own carriers page (fetched Oct 27, 2026) lists BabyBjörn, Bvya, Little Hippy Co., Momcozy and Ergobaby — no Colugo — and states IHDI is not a certifying body, certifies and endorses nothing, and that no carrier can cause or prevent hip dysplasia. The adjustable 8.7–15.0″ seat can hold a knee-to-knee M-position when fitted right; that is geometry, not an acknowledgement. “4 carry positions” is a count inflation: front-in is counted twice (7 lb+ and 12 lb+ stages); the real positions are the same three as the original. The genuine upgrade is the published gates — facing-out and back at 12 lb+ AND 6 months+ with strong head/neck control, which matches conservative carrying guidance. The “new” features are incremental: the original already had magnetic buckles (one-touch one-hand operation is the improvement), its fanny pack was removable as a wristlet where Carrier 2’s is attached, and its pocket already held a phone. The unambiguous deltas: 35 lb vs. 33 lb, padded straps and air-mesh by name, printed gates, and returnability. On the 35 lb ceiling, treat it as a tested limit, not a comfort promise — testers found the original already fussy to seat near 33 lb, and this is the same 1.5 lb class of carrier.
Safety & recalls
No CPSC recall naming Colugo or either Colugo carrier was found on Oct 27, 2026 — an absence, stated as one. Soft carriers sit under the mandatory ASTM F2236 (16 CFR 1226) standard. One gap to check on arrival: the original’s page states JPMA Certified and Target repeats “JPMA Certified, Meets ASTM Standards,” but the Carrier 2 page as fetched carries no JPMA or ASTM statement — a copy absence, not proof of non-compliance; the hangtag and manual are the check. Use TICKS every carry (Tight, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss, Keep chin off chest, Supported back). The family manual warns of fall hazard (snug leg openings; confirm every buckle, including the magnetic ones, fully engaged) and suffocation hazard for premature infants, infants with respiratory problems and infants under 4 months if the face presses to the wearer’s body. Facing-out is awake-only, strong-neck, short stretches — turn a drowsy baby back in.
Real reviews — what owners say
There is no owner record for Carrier 2 yet, and this check does not borrow the original’s. Colugo’s carriers page (Oct 27, 2026) shows review counts for the original — Black 203 reviews, Wild Child 12 — and no review count at all for The Baby Carrier 2; its product page shows no rating. No independent hands-on test was found: Fathercraft’s September 2026 update is explicit that its tested review covers the original and Carrier 2 details come “from Colugo’s current product pages until we’ve worn it”; no BabyGearLab test and no Mommyhood101 tested review of either Colugo carrier was found. Registry and deal records show Carrier 2 selling on Amazon at $69.00, but no ASIN or rating pool for it could be verified through mirrors. Everything favourable about Carrier 2 today is a spec sheet standing on the original’s reputation.
Price & FSA/HSA
Pinned: $69.00 at Colugo against a $99.00 compare-at — and $99 is the framing, not the price to pay: Fathercraft notes Carrier 2 is “regularly $99, often on sale for $69.” The $10 premium over the original’s $59.00 buys the one-hand buckles, the +2 lb ceiling, printed gates, padded straps/air-mesh and the attached pack — plus the underrated item: the original is Final Sale with no returns, while Carrier 2’s page promises 30-day returns and the 2-year warranty; on a fit-dependent product, returnability outvalues any single feature. Brand bundles: Carrier 2 + Carrier Cozy $89.00 and Carrier 2 + Carrier Mac $94.00. The upsell shelf around it: Carrier Cozy $30, Carrier Mac $35, Drool Pack $25 — cold/wet weather and drool protection are accessories, not included. No verifiable Amazon ASIN was found for Carrier 2, so the buy link runs to Colugo through our CJ affiliate link. FSA/HSA: not eligible.
The original Colugo formula, better mapped: $69.00 buys a 1.5 lb carrier rated 7–35 lb with no infant insert, published gates the original never printed (facing-out and back carry at 12 lb+ and 6 months+), one-touch one-hand magnetic buckles, padded straps and air-mesh — and 30-day returns, while the $59 original is Final Sale. Buy it knowing the record is paper, not people: no brand review count is displayed for Carrier 2 and no independent hands-on test exists yet, the “4 positions” are 3 with front-in counted twice, and the hip-healthy claim does not appear on IHDI’s current list.
