The original in Black — now Final Sale at $59, with the sunshade doubling as its roll-up travel wrap

The Baby Carrier, Black (Colugo)
The proven Colugo at closeout math — $59.00 for the 1.5 lb, 7–33 lb magnetic-buckle carrier with a deep, consistent owner record — with Final Sale, a realistic 7–25 lb comfort window, and an IHDI badge that does not verify on IHDI's current list as the printed caveats.
See current price ↗The pitch
a perfectly adjustable, lightweight and breathable carrier that grows from newborn to 33 lb with no infant insert — inward, outward and back carry, magnetic buckles, a UPF 50 sunshade and a removable fanny pack pouch
The catch
it is Final Sale with no returns, the top of the weight range is optimistic, the page publishes no facing-out age gate, and the magnetic buckles can rub a sleeping baby’s face in the facing-in position
FSA/HSA
not eligible — a baby carrier is general parenting gear, not a medical expense
What it is
Colugo’s original soft-structured carrier, now the closeout-priced sibling of Carrier 2: a 1.5 lb carrier in 100% polyester main fabric and lining with 100% nylon belt and straps, rated 7–33 lb with no infant insert, fitting waistbands 28–54″, with three carry positions (front facing-in, front facing-out, back carry), magnetic “Magic Buckles,” padded shoulder straps, a UPF 50 sunshade that doubles as the roll-up wrap for travel, a hidden front pocket for diapers, wipes or a onesie, and a removable fanny pack pouch that detaches as a wristlet. Machine washable separately, cold; air dry. The brand page states JPMA Certified and third-party-tested compliance with US safety regulations. As sold on Oct 27, 2026, the Black is bannered “Final Sale: Not eligible for returns or exchanges” — that banner is part of the math, not fine print.
Claims vs. reality
“Hip healthy,” acknowledged by IHDI: claimed in terms by the brand, NOT FOUND on IHDI’s current list. The page says it and shows the badge, but IHDI’s own carriers page (fetched Oct 27, 2026) lists BabyBjörn, Bvya, Little Hippy Co., Momcozy and Ergobaby — no Colugo — and IHDI states it is not a certifying body, certifies and endorses nothing, and that no carrier can cause or prevent hip dysplasia. Facing-in fit is owner- and tester-praised; one detailed Amazon-pool owner found facing-out legs “spread very uncomfortably wide even on the smaller setting.” The 7–33 lb window is real at the bottom and optimistic at the top: no-insert newborn use verifies across brand, Target and hands-on testing, but Fathercraft — this carrier’s biggest champion — found seating got hard near 33 lb, and the ceiling was revised down from an earlier 35 lb line that Amazon mirrors for this ASIN still print (alongside a stale “Hand Wash Only” against the brand’s machine-washable direction). Plan on a superb 7–25 lb core. The magnetic buckles verify hands-on — self-aligning, big pull tabs, solo loading praised by Fathercraft and Motherly — with the owner-found caveat that they sit at a napping baby’s face in facing-in (pad them; Colugo sells the Drool Pack). Lightweight verifies at 1.5 lb everywhere; breathability is a mesh panel’s worth — praised as cool for everyday wear, not a full-mesh summer specialist.
Safety & recalls
No CPSC recall naming Colugo or this carrier was found on Oct 27, 2026 — an absence, stated as one. Soft carriers sit under the mandatory ASTM F2236 (16 CFR 1226) standard; the brand states JPMA Certification and Target’s record for this Black carrier lists “JPMA Certified, Meets ASTM Standards.” The owner manual’s warnings are the ones that matter: fall hazard (adjust leg openings snug; confirm all buckles secure before each use; bend at the knees, never the waist) and suffocation hazard for premature infants, infants with respiratory problems and infants under 4 months if the face presses tightly to the wearer’s body. Two gaps to name: the product page publishes no numeric facing-out or back-carry age gate — use the rule Colugo itself publishes for Carrier 2 (12 lb+, 6 months+, strong head/neck control), keep facing-out short and awake-only, and run TICKS every carry (Tight, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss, Keep chin off chest, Supported back). Final Sale sharpens inspection duty: check buckles, seams and straps on arrival — the 2-year warranty is a defect remedy, not a fit remedy.
Real reviews — what owners say
Pools kept separate, and never merged with Carrier 2, which has none yet. Brand site, Black: 4.55/5 across 203 reviews; the Wild Child colorway’s brand pool is separate at 12 reviews. Target (Black): 4.6/5 across 18 ratings. Walmart (sold by Colugo): 4.6/5 across 182 reviews. Amazon via mirrors for the pinned Black ASIN B0C8ZLZFVJ: 4.4/5 across 84–85 reviews (other colorways counted separately). Babylist Shop shows 4.6/5 across ~239–240, a syndicated pool likely overlapping the brand file. Editorially, Fathercraft names it its overall favorite baby carrier after years of testing, and Motherly’s tested list praises the lumbar support on a petite 5′2″ wearer. The praise spine: comfort and weight distribution, magnetic snaps, the pockets and pouch, the nap sunshade, roll-up travel. Complaints, in order: buckles rubbing and being mouthed at the baby’s face in facing-in; facing-out leg width on the narrow setting; fit uncertainty near the top of the range and in back carry for toddlers; the waist pocket getting harder to reach as a bigger baby sags over it; and isolated tear/discomfort notes in Walmart’s summary.
Price & FSA/HSA
Pinned: $59.00 at Colugo for the Black, Final Sale, against a $99.00 compare-at on the current page — older records list this carrier at $145.00 and Colugo’s MAP policy lists the family at $99.00, so the honest anchor is today’s $59–$99 street band. Elsewhere for Black: $59.99 at Target, $99.00 list at Walmart (a $74.25 snapshot in its catalog record), $99 at Pottery Barn Kids. The same carrier in the Wild Child colorway is $39.00 at Colugo (Final Sale) — the same 7–33 lb product for $20 less if the print works for you; this check pins Black. At $59 the value case is strong, but Final Sale converts fit risk into buyer risk: the discount and the no-return banner are the same fact. Carrier 2 at $69 with 30-day returns is the hedge. The upsell shelf: Carrier Cozy $30, Carrier Mac $35, Drool Pack $25. The buy link is the verified Amazon ASIN B0C8ZLZFVJ with the WorthItMama tag (mirrors confirm the ASIN, UPC and Black colorway; they do not expose a live Amazon price, and their 35 lb / hand-wash fields are stale — the brand’s 33 lb and machine-wash directions govern). FSA/HSA: not eligible.
The proven Colugo, at closeout math: $59.00 buys the 1.5 lb, 7–33 lb carrier with magnetic buckles, a mesh panel and a review record most $150 carriers would take — brand 4.55/5 across 203 Black reviews, Walmart 4.6/5 across 182, Target 4.6/5 — and you buy it knowing Final Sale means fit is your risk, the comfortable window is really about 7–25 lb, not the advertised 33, and the IHDI hip-healthy badge is a brand claim that does not appear on IHDI’s current list. The buckles that make solo loading easy sit at a napping baby’s face in facing-in unless you pad them. Worth It
